But do you know, that is the driver cd, without it your computer is almost useless. So keep it safely!!

Tip : If you lost your driver cd, don't loose hope continue reading.

Symptoms & Problems :

If you have connected a device to your computer and it could'nt detect it, can be a symptom of driver issue.

These are the symptoms of driver problem :

  • Windows will show "Device Not Installed Properly"
  • Windows asks for driver, and fail to find it
  • After connecting a device you hear the beep but it does'nt work
  • Device not working properly

Check : Create partition without formatting

Solutions :

Here is a complete guide to troubleshoot your driver issue :

There is no fixed steps to fix your driver issue. You have to use different methods to fix your driver problem.

First thing is to check device manager, right click on my computer - properties and locate device manager ( in hardware tab if your are using xp or in left side for windows 7). Any device showing a yellow exclamation mark on its icon means its having a driver issue.

Tip : Before fixing any driver problem, device manager is the tool to look for.

Now right click on the icon showing yellow exclamation mark and update driver, and windows will automatically search for it. This step always does'nt work, so lets move to next method.

You can download the drivers from your manufacturer's website from support section. These driver are of highest quality and updated. If you have a pre-build computer simply goto your manufacturer's website like dell.com. If you have a home build computer you can goto your motherboard manufacturer's website and then select the operating system and the model no. of your motherboard.

Check : How to plan before buying a computer

DriverPack Solution is another good option if you don't know the model number. Its a program which have a massive collection of drivers for all types of devices and operating system. It is a 3GB program but have almost every driver you need. They are not the best quality driver compared to the manufacturer's driver but definitely a good alternative.

If you find any other good program like DriverPack solution write it in the comment box.

List of tools you need

1) Screwdriver set
2) Digital multimeter
3) Brush

Note : Power onn the computer

Step 1

Now the first thing you should check if the monitor's power LED is onn or off. If You see the LED is onn then your monitor is getting power. If the power LED is off try another power cord to check, is it your monitor's power cord needed to be change or if it still does'nt work with a new power cord then its time to change the monitor.

Tip : Check the plugin board from where the computer is getting power, may be the problem is in the switchboard and not in the computer

So If your monitor is getting power and there is still no display lets move to step 2

Check : How to create a new drive without formatting

Step 2

So now the next thing we'll check is the VGA of the computer.Carefully remove the VGA cord from the monitor, if now you can see its displaying (No signal) or some words dancing on the screen then its seems to be the monitor's VGA is fine.

Tip : Check with a new VGA cord to make sure the old VGA cord is working or not.

Now, that you know the monitor is not responsible for the problem, we can move a step ahead

Note : Cut power off from the computer

Now use the screwdriver to open the desktop cabinet cover with the motherboard facing upwards, so you can see all the components inside the cabinet.

Tip: Use the brush to clean the dust inside the cabinet

Step 3

Now carefully take the RAM out from the slot, rub gently the chip of the RAM with an eraser (the one we use to erase pencil marks). Now power onn the computer and check if the display is back or not (most of the time display problem occurs due to rust on the RAM chip).if there is still no display on the monitor, use the multimeter to check the voltage of RAM, if not use another SMPS.

Tip : If there is still no voltage in the RAM slot even after trying with a new SMPS, the problem can be in the RAM slot.

There is another possibility, that if the system has been upgraded recently, may be you need more powerful Ram.

By following this guide you can troubleshoot your own computer and skip paying to a technician and also you can save alot of time, even you can earn some extra cash by helping people troubleshooting their computer problem.

Test ram slot voltage with digital multimeter

To check any component's voltage on computer motherboard using digital multimeter, first you need to know some informations about how to use a multimeter. We are talking about computers so I'll guide you about that because with a multimeter you can check many other devices aswell.

Warning : If any kid reading this, please don't try this at home.

Connect the black wire of the multimeter in the port marked as com on the multimeter and insert the other red wire just above the Com port. Multimeter has a digital screen and a regulator. Around the regulator there are few sections, each for measuring different things like AC current, DC current, resistance etc., because we are talking about computers here, we'll focus on DC current section.

DC current section marked as 200m, 2000m, 20, 200, 1000 volt. Computer only takes -12 to + 12 volt so we'll set the regulator pointer on 20 to measure exact voltage.

Warning : Don't set the regulator below 20, it can damage the motherboard or the multimeter.

Note : To chech RAM slot we need to know some informations about SMPS

Tip : Cut the power off from the computer

SMPS have a 24 pin ATX power connector and other connectors to power other peripherals like hard disk and CD/DVD Rom. Remove the connecters from the CD/DVD rom and also from hard disk, but don't remove the 24 pin ATX connector from the motherboard, because we need to give power in motherboard.

Tip : Don't have to take the SMPS out from the cabinet, just remove those connectors.

Smps carry -12 to +12 volt, each colour of wire carry a volt within that, and the black wire carries 0 volt (ground)

Now insert the black lead of your multimeter in the pata (IDE) power connector port which is connected to a black wire. Now power onn the Smps and use the red lead of your multimeter to check the ram slot. (locate the pins of ram slot on the back side of the motherboard. Usually you will get voltage around 3.5v / 5v and from some pins 0 volt).

Warning : Don't try to measure any other component with this setup

Make your desktop icon invisible in less than 20 seconds

Today I am going to show you how to make your desktop icon invisible

Thats right, you heard it, you can really make your desktop icon invisible. You don't need to know any magic spells or any advance coding knowledge, just few clicks and bam! you are done.

If you are an user of Microsoft windows operating system in your pc then this trick is very helpful for you, because there is always something we want to keep secret from others. You can use this trick to make your personal folder icon invisible for others, and only you will know where it is on the desktop screen, cool right?

You can show this trick in your friends circle and definetly you will get the spotlight.

There are many icons in your desktop screen, but there are one or two icons you want to make invisible, which you don't want others to see. People usually create a new folder and move those icons in that folder, but if someone opens that folder, then they can see your hidden folders, another option you might apply by simply "Hide" the folder, but then you have to do alot of clicks to make that folder visible again on your desktop screen. It is not the correct solution, it can be done for a different purpose, but I am talking about making an icon invisible and also accessible, it will be right there on your desktop screen, you can access that folder but nobody can see it, only you know its there.

Tip : Before making any particular folder icon invisible, move that folder icon to an empty place on your desktop screen, or move it to a corner, to make it more effective place a gadget above that.

I Know, now you are excited to know how this really works. So without wasting any more time lets just come to the point.

First thing you need to do is select the shortcut icon you want to make invisible, right click on the folder and a menu box will appear, click rename or just click once on the folder icon and press F2 to rename. Now delete the previous name and then press Alt + 255, now you will notice, the name of the icon is invisible but the folder icon is still there, so now again right click on the folder and click on properties, then goto the shortcut tab and select a blank icon from the list, click ok and then apply. Now you will notice your desktop shortcut icon is literally invisible.

Tip : To make it visible again simply rename it.

This trick is very effective and can save you from alot of trouble.

Every router have a default IP address (192.168.1.1) and a login password (admin). Now on the back panel of the router you can see some ports, and under each port its written Lan 1,Lan 2,Lan 3,Lan 4 and a WAN port. There is another port for inserting power adapter cord. Now insert the internet cord in the WAN port and insert a cross cable in Lan 1 port and connect the other end in the computer's Lan port. Now use the power adapter cord to power up the router. Now open the internet browser and type the default IP (192.168.1.1) and the login pop up window will appear, type the default password (admin), So the router is unlocked now and the router configuration page will appear. Now you can see the status info page and the connection status as connecting. Now click WAN and set connection type as PPPoE, under that you'll see the username and then password followed by service name (these informations will be given by your ISP), after putting these informations click save. Now refresh the page after 10 seconds (connection status will change to connected).

Now lets configure wireless settings, goto the login page enter the default password and then click wireless settings, under the wireless basic settings, change the SSID name and set the name you want to display as a wifi name and click save.
